June 29,2005: "This isn't Algeria or the Inquisition, but a question of democratic countries that are tryng to face a threat and do not have the adequate legal instruments to fight what's at stake", said Francesco Sidoti, a professor and intelligence expert at the University of L'Aquila.

"So they commit actions that may be condamnable from a legal point of view, he added. "But legality is one thing, and morality is another, and the reasons of the state and the defense of one's country are something else again".

 

July 8, 2005: "This should be a wake-up call for us all, since England has the best antiterrorism tradition in Europe", said Francesco Sidoti, a security expert at the University of L'Aquila in Italy. "We were unprepared.".

"This has nothing to do with the old-style domestic terrorism that Europe is used to," he sai referring to scattered acts of violence committed by groups like the Red Brigades in Italy.
